Terms and Conditions

What we do

We are a family farm that has diversified into providing a variety of courses for the public and corporate markets. Adrian Joy Trading as ‘Joy Farms’ is a small business and as such we are pleased to welcome all who would like to learn something new or further their learning. We facilitate and teach various subjects and we have a number of guest teachers to help and also offer other crafts.

We refer to Adrian Joy Trading as ‘Joy Farms’ as “Joy Farms”. We refer to ‘teachers’ as teachers or makers. We refer to those who attend our courses as the ‘Customer’ or ‘user’. We refer to the courses we host as ‘experiences’, ‘workshops’, ‘courses’ or ‘events’.

Acceptance of our Terms

By using the website or completing the registration form for a particular course, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions set out below (“Terms”). You will ensure that you, your partner, employees or any person attending on your behalf shall comply with these Terms.

If you disagree with any part of these terms and conditions you must not use the website or book any courses with us. You must be at least 18 years of age to use this website and attend courses as a Customer.

All courses listed are subject to availability. Images and descriptions are used to illustrate the services on offer, but actual services and results may vary due to many factors including the participants ability after teaching.

All bookings & purchases can be paid for using our gift vouchers and/or payment cards.

Services are provided by ourselves or our guest teachers.

Gift vouchers

We offer gift vouchers which can be spent towards any course.

Our gift vouchers all come with a full 12 months of validity. The course/s must be booked before the expiry date, though they may take place at a later date.

Vouchers are available for specific Courses or for a £value to be spent towards one. Vouchers are issued upon purchase via email.

If services purchased exceed the voucher amount, the difference can be paid via card.

If the gift voucher is worth more than the service purchased the ‘change’ voucher is returned to the customer via email.

Places on specific courses cannot be guaranteed. All the teachers are predominantly individual craftspeople and artisans, and the services are therefore offered in limited numbers to give enough time to teach everyone and for safety reasons. Once they are sold, unless there are cancellations where another place may become available in which case we will do our best to let you know.

Gift vouchers are refundable up to 14 days following purchase and this can be arranged if you Contact us.

Waiting list:

On some courses, we offer a waiting list feature. We cannot guarantee that someone will cancel or that more places become available. If a place does become available, we operate on a “first come first served” basis. You will be emailed or called if this occurs.

Bookings, orders and course format:

During the booking process the full amount will be taken to secure your place.

We aim for our Courses to go ahead as advertised. However, as these take place on a farm and parts of it may rely on being in an outdoors environment, where weather or other factors may limit some aspects of the experience. This may require us to change some of the format of the advertised experience, for example if “lunch by an open fire” is included, poor weather may mean this is not possible & would be supplied under cover. Refunds are not given for variances of the course format.

Refunds & cancellations

Scheduled course bookings (in-person and online course bookings) may only be cancelled if they fall within the specified cancellation period of that course.

Cancellations and full refunds are permitted up to 8 weeks before the course starts.

Where feasible, we offer a waiting list feature, so if you would like to cancel your place less than 8 weeks before the event, where feasible we will advertise your place and if we are able to fill it then we will do our best to offer you an alternative date or refund.

In the case of a full refund, it will be issued as practically possible. Our policies also exist to protect Joy Farms and our Teachers from late cancellations and no-shows. Also, most courses require preparation, sometimes a full day and prior investment in materials, so often require a fairly strict cancellation policy. As a small business if one person were to cancel this could be the difference between the course being successful or not. Thank you for your understanding.

If a refund is eligible, it will be processed on the same method used to make the original payment.

If payment was made in full or in part with a gift voucher, the gift voucher will be reactivated to use to book another course. If the expiry date is within 3 months, the voucher will automatically be extended for up to 3 months to ensure plenty of time to choose something else. Refunds can only be made to the person who made the booking and credited to the payment method used at payment.

Please note that cancellations or postponements outside of the cancellation window will be at the sole discretion of Joy Farms or the Teacher.

Bespoke courses, arranged for groups or by specific arrangement, cannot be refunded unless by agreement with Joy Farms and the Teacher.

If Joy Farms or a Teacher cancels or the venue needs to change

We aim to run our courses on the original advertised dates/times/location. If Joy Farms or the Teacher needs to cancel the course at short notice for reasons beyond their control, such as adverse weather conditions, illness or mechanical breakdowns, you have these options:

  • Rearranging a mutually convenient date! (Most Popular option)

  • Receiving a full refund

We regret that in the event of cancellation for any reason, Joy Farms is unable to reimburse travel, accommodation or any other expenses you may incur in relation to the cancelled course.

There may be circumstances in which we need to postpone the Workshop or change the venue at which Workshop is to be held and if we do, we shall advise you of this as soon as we possibly can. If the postponement is for more than 6 months after the publicised date of the Workshop or the replacement venue is more than 30 miles away from the publicised venue, you may cancel your booking by emailing us at info@joyfarms.co.uk and we shall provide you with a refund.

Safety & insurance

Many of our courses take place in the open countryside and are by their very nature not absolutely free from hazard. Joy Farms makes every effort to minimise risk to Customers and instructs them in the safe negotiation of such risk as may remain. Consequently, the Customer acknowledges that there are circumstances in which an accident could befall a Customer without Joy Farms being at fault and accepts that to that extent he / she is taking part in a course at his / her own risk.

Each course will start with a safety briefing and familiarisation of the workshop and surroundings. You must also take responsibility for your own actions - some courses use sharp and dangerous tools and it is likely there are open fires and or hot kettles etc. Instruction and guidance will be given as part of the course, before you can use tools, however the teachers cannot keep a watchful eye over everyone simultaneously. Therefore once you have been shown the correct and safe ways of holding and using the tools - please use these - or if in doubt stop what you are doing put the tools in its sheath or a safe place and ask to be shown again.

Joy Farms carries up to date insurance for running courses and our teachers will carry their own insurance too. A risk assessment has been carried out for the craft workshop the course is being run in.

We believe that every individual using the Joy Farms website and facility as a student, customer or Teacher should be treated with dignity and respect. We ask that all Teachers using the website and venue provide a learning environment entirely free from judgement or bias, regardless of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.

Where disability or physical challenges may be a barrier to participation, we ask that Teachers make all reasonable adaptations possible to allow maximum safe inclusion for all, and if this is not possible, to make it clear in advance. It is the customer’s responsiblity to inform us of any special requirements at the time of booking to enable us to assess & prepare any special adaptation.

Please note our workshop is at the top of a working farm, access to the area is uneven and may be too challenging to access for some, however we will do our best to accommodate. Most courses require good manual dexterity e.g. use of knives and axes, where possible we will try to facilitate adaptations to enable as much inclusivity as we can.
