Nestled in the lovely Surrey Hills, our Frame Basket Weaving Workshop offers a serene escape into the heart of nature while nurturing your creative spirit and learning traditional basket weaving techniques.

Dive into the art of basket weaving with Ellie Morgan, a masterful full-time basket weaver, as she expertly guides beginners through the traditional techniques in crafting a frame basket from a variety of willow. Our farm, sets the ambiance with its spacious, rustic craft workspace.

With no experience needed, indulge in this hands-on journey, taking breaks by the open fire to savor locally roasted chimney fire coffee and a sumptuous farm-cooked lunch. A unique, immersive experience awaits, promising a day of craftsmanship “away from it all”, and a handwoven treasure to take home and use.

Who is this workshop for?: While the workshop is beginner-friendly, catering to both first-timers and those revisiting their craft. Please note that basket weaving can be hard on the hands. Those with strength concerns might find the process challenging.

What type of basket will I make: A frame basket is one of the best all round shapes for shoppers, foragers and gardeners as it has the most practical opening. It is also the best type of basket to make if you’re new to the craft. See our blog for more on types of baskets.
Venue and Experience:
Our craft workshop is uniquely situated in a refurbished farm building, with open sides to truly immerse you in the natural beauty of the Surrey Hills. The gentle crackle of the open fire in the adjacent copse provides a harmonious backdrop, where your lunch will be prepared, and continuous kettle brewing invites spontaneous breaks to soak in the surroundings.

Workshop Details: Join us at 09:15 to begin promptly at 09:30. Coffee and Lunch breaks by the open fire during the day. Depending on the group's pace, our day is estimated to conclude between 17:00 and 17:30. Our commitment is ensuring every participant leaves with their finished basket.

About your instructor: Ellie Morgan is a highly skilled, full time basket weaver and crafter. Read more her about in the Team

Timings: We ask students to arrive 09:15 for a 09:30 start. We aim to finish about 17-17:30. Depending on the group we may finish a little earlier.

Our goal is for everyone leaves with a finished basket on the day, depending on the group we sometimes run over time or may agree as a group to make lunch a bit shorter.
